Christmas Nail Art

Friday, 29 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
For the last few days I have been attempting Christmas inspired nail art, I am definitely not a pro & I think some of them could be a lot better but as I am quite clumsy & my hands occasionally shake I am really happy with them, so I thought I'd show you.

Penguin, Santa, Snowman, Glittery Leopard Print, Reindeer
I chose to do a glittery leopard print design because it just reminded me of christmas, I would love to do the glitter leopard print nails & then have the reindeer on the accent nails.
Have you done any Christmas inspired nail art? Leave the links in the comments or tweet me the photos at @VioletDreamBlog

Giveaway Wins

Thursday, 28 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
I recently won two giveaways, I thought I'd do a post & show you what I got. I've seen quite a lot of posts like this & I personally really like them. I'd like to say that I'm not bragging in any way, I'm really nosy when it comes to what people have won, bought etc. but if this post isn't for you, feel free not to read it & check out the other posts I have done throughout November.

From SrslyLou I won a mini Benefit set, A mini Sleek lipstick & a mini Bumble & Bumble thickening hairspray. I haven't tried any of these products yet but I am really excited to try the product from Bumble & Bumble as I have heard so many amazing things.

From Lauren Wanders I won the Boots beauty advent calender, which I am so excited about. I'm not sure if I'm going to post about it everyday in December or take photos everyday & then just put it one big post at the end of the month. I have been really good & haven't peeked at all but I must say it is incredibly difficult as everything that is in there is on the back.

I am incredibly grateful that I have won these amazing items & I would like to say again that I'm not bragging in any way.

I would love to know how you feel about these kinds of posts? Have you tried any of the products mentioned? What are your thoughts? & finally have you got a beauty advent calender this year?

Christmas Nail Art Inspiration

Wednesday, 27 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
I adore nail art, especially the Christmas kind, so I have been searching Pinterest for a little inspiration. I can't wait to try & re create these lovely designs, especially the snowman, santa from the first image & the reindeer from the second.

All photo's are from Pinterest.

How do you find your Christmas Nail Art Inspiration?

How I Store My Jewellery | Necklaces

Tuesday, 26 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
Today I thought I'd show you how I store my necklaces. I got this Jewellery hanger from B&M quite a while ago, it is very shabby chic & I think it was only £5. Bargain!

For a long time I kept my necklaces in gift boxes & I found that they got tangled, the longer ones especially. So when I saw this..I knew it would be life changing. No more untangling necklaces & now I wear them all, not just the one as it is so annoying having to hunt through gift box after gift box to find a specific one.

How do you store your jewellery?

Winter Warmers

Monday, 25 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
As it is absolutely freezing here in Wales, I thought I'd talk about the things that keep me all warm & cosy.

excuse the makeup less face & slightly damp hair (:

Leopard Onsie.
You will never see me in a onsie outside but when it's time for bed or I'm not planning on getting dressed that day, I will most likely have this on. It makes me so warm & cosy & has adorable ears on the hood ^-^ But I will say that it isn't very nice when you need to go to the toilet as your whole body is practically exposed.

Faux Leather Jacket.
This is my go to jacket of choice if I need to go out, it's quite thick so it really keeps the warmth in even if it's left undone.

Burgundy Bobble Hat
I'm usually not one for hats as I don't think they look right on me but this hat is an exception, it is so soft, keeps me so warm all day & stays put over my ridiculous amount of hair.

Racoon Flip Top Gloves.
My hands get super cold but I still need to be able to use my hands so these gloves are perfect. They are fingerless but have a little mitten style flap that has an adorable racoon face on it. They are so soft & really keep the warmth in.

Fluffy Socks.
Like my hands, my feet also get super cold so wearing a cosy pair of socks is a must. They are so comfy, soft & so lovely to wear this time of year as they warm your feet up nicely.

Ugg Style Boots.
I adore these & I have had a fair few pairs over the last few years. I wear them pretty much all year round but mostly everyday in the A/W months. I'll wear them around the house & if I'm going out somewhere because they are just so comfy & as I tend to wear more casual outfits they go with nearly everything I own. As mine are lined with faux fur my feet stay nice & warm all day.

So they are all my essential winter warmers, what are your go to clothing/accessory items for the colder months?

Also today is my birthday. Yay (:

#BritishBloggerSelection | Favourite Makeup Brands

Sunday, 24 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
Today is going to be the fourth #BritishBloggerSelection post. I am going to be talking about my favourite makeup brand..this was really hard because I adore so many brands & can't pick just I've picked two. Naughty.

I have a lot of variety in my makeup bag..there is brands ranging from Urban Decay to Maybelline to Mua. I have decided to talk about the brands that I use the most products from on a day to day basis. I love so many brands & I'm not sure if you could call these favourites as I tend to favour a specific product not the brand itself.

I have chose..

Lately Revlon has been a brand that I have reached for quite a bit, they have an amazing range of products - from blushers to lipsticks to eyeshadow to foundations & they are fairly priced to. I partically adore the Nearly Naked range, I have both the foundation & powder. They make my skin look amazing but still look natural. I also love their Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara, I find it does an amazing job at giving my lashes lots of length & volume.

Benefit is one of those brands that draw you in with their amazing packaging..I am definitely a fan of their kits as you can try lots of things for cheaper. I'm not going to lie & say that I don't think their prices need a re think but from the products I've used..they are amazing quality. I adore the POREfessional Primer, it really does minimize pores & you only need a tiny amount. I also really like the Sugarbomb blush, as I have been wearing bold lipsticks & wearing more than a skin tone eyeshadow shade..I have been loving the sublte glow the blush gives. It really is amazing.

Tip: If you want to try some higher end products, I always look on ebay or search for blog sales first. I mostly do this because I am quite fussy when it comes to makeup & if you don't like it, you haven't spent so much.

What are your favourite brands?

Benefit Porefessional

Friday, 22 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
I have had a sample of the Benefit Porefessional for quite a while but even though I liked it I never really gave it a proper chance but the other day I decided to give it a go as my pores looked huge & I fell in love with it. So as I'm nearly at the end of this sample I thought I'd review it before I start the other little sample I got in the How To Look The Best At Everything Set.

The POREfessional has a balm like consistancy, it kinda resembles a tinted moisturiser but after it has been applied to the skin it becomes clear & you are left with a velvety smooth finish. Everyone adores this primer because it is supposed to minamise the appearance of pores & after using nearly the entire tube I can definitely say that Benefit are spot on. I have large visable pores on my nose & cheeks & nothing has covered them up as well as this. I also found that as well as making my pores less visable & making my foundation apply so well - it also made my skin look incredible. I don't have to worry about any dry patches coming through or my foundation looking patchy. I am so impressed with this primer & even though I still think the price tag is a bit much, I may have to purchase the full size version.

Are you a fan of Benefit POREfessional? What is your favourite product to minimize pores?

Found an amazing POREfession Dupe? Let me know in the comments.

Wishlist #14 - The Mua Edit

Thursday, 21 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
I haven't been on the Mua website for so long so while I had a spare five minutes I thought I'd have a look & not only were the two things I wanted back in stock [they usually aren't when I'm planning to buy them ] but they also had some amazing products in the Luxe range. Its safe to say after the spending ban I will be treating myself..especially as it will only come to £10 for all four things.

What's In My Makeup Bag

Monday, 18 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
If you read my 'treats from my boyfriend & his mum' post, you will know that I got a new makeup bag. So I thought I'd show you what I'm currently using (:

I have loved using the Benefit POREfessional & the Revlon Nearly Naked foundation together, my skin looks flawless & the foundation is such a good colour match. Definitely holy grail products here.

I then use the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer to cover any redness/blemishes & cover my dark circles. After that has been blended I use the L'Oreal Lumi Magique Primer to hightlight, I pop it on the bridge of my nose, cupid's bow, cheekbones etc.

I then use the Revlon Nearly Naked Powder to set my face & I find the other powder products apply better if I powder beforehand. I use the Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer to contour, I pop it into the hollows of my cheeks, under my chin & any excess on my temples, hairline etc.

Lastly for the face is blush - I use the Benefit Sugarbomb blush as it gives a subtle hint of colour to the skin. I pop it on the apples of my cheeks & blend it up to the hairline.

I use the Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer before my concealer as it really helps things to stay put & makes sure nothing creases throughout the day.

I use the Garnier Caffine Eye Roll Ons after my concealer, I usually switch between them depending on whether I need extra coverage or not. They are both really good at making you look more awake & bright eyed.

I use the Mua eyeshadow primer to even everything out on my lids & make sure everything stays put all day. I use the applicator to apply it & then blend it out with my ring finger. I use the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette nearly everyday, I mostly use Walk Of Shame all over the lid & Venus on the brow bone/inner corner.

& lastly I have been loving the Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara, it really does it all. My lashes have more volume & length with no clumps to be seen what so ever.

I keep it pretty simple for my brows, I have loving using the shade Naked 2 from the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette to fill them in & then I use the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara to set them & catch any hairs I missed.

Like brows, I tend to keep it pretty simple. I have been loving the Nivea Lip Butter for the colder months, it really does make a difference in the appearance of my lips. I use my finger to apply this but I make sure my hands are always sanatized first so no nasties are going on my lips.

Whats in your make up bag?

#BritishBloggerSelection | Favourite Clothes Shops - New Look & Asos

Sunday, 17 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
Today is going to be the third #BritishBloggersSelection post. I am going to be talking about my favourite clothes shops - New Look & Asos.
What I love most about both of these shops is that they are very plus size friendly, some of the shops I have come across only stock a small amount of items for curvier ladies or none at all & I really think it isn't fair. Both New Look & Asos have an amazing range of beautiful on trend clothes for plus size ladies, I don't personally follow trends but I do know that some shops only stock items for curvier ladies that are more nan like than on trend. I am always so impressed with the quality, I have never disliked an item that I have bought from New Look or Asos. They are very true to their size, everything fits really well & the prices are also really great.

I would definitely reccomend checking out the skinny jeans from New Look, they are incredible. I also reccomend checking out the knitwear range on the Asos website, they have some beautiful items & they really are worth it.
What are your favourite clothing shops?

The Christmas Tag

Hey Dolls.
I enjoyed doing Georgina's Autumn tag so much, I just had to do her Christmas one aswell. I adore tags, I adore Christmas so putting the two together is perfect.

1.  Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?
We have always had synthetic trees but I would love a real one!

2.  You're in a coffee shop, it's December, what do you pick?
It really depends on how I'm feeling that day..I adore hot I'd probably pick that.

3.  Whats your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?
This year I have a mini tree for my room, I'm definitely going for a multi coloured theme. I have bought some mini baubles that have gorgeous shades of pink, green, blue etc.

4.  Giving or receiving?
I'd be lying if I said I didn't love receiving gifts but I adore buying them so much more. Finding the perfect present, wrapping it up & then seeing the joy one someones face when they open it is truly the best thing.

No, I really dislike mince pies.

6.  What's your traditional sunday lunch?
My parents always do the same thing every year, chicken [none of us are a fan of turkey] lots of veg, roast patatoes, mash, yorkshire puddings, stuffing, mint sauce/apple sauce & lovely home made gravy.

7.  Christmas day fashion
Until I've opened all my presents, I am usually rocking my pjs but then I will usually chuck on skinny jeans, a cosy jumer & ugg boots.

8.  What's your favourite Christmas song?
I adore Against The Current's version of All I Want For Christmas Is You.

Before! I could not wait until after lunch aha I'm fair to impatient (:

Will you be doing Georgina's tag?

Little Treats

Hey Dolls.
My boyfriend kindly got me the Benefit POREfessional mini & the Benefit SugarBomb blush off Gemma's blogsale because I have done so well on my spending ban so far. His mum also gave me this gorgeous makeup bag a week or so ago, it reminds me off a makeup bag that was hyped up quite a while ago but I never got my hands on it & it is one of my favourite colours..purple.

I adore the Benefit POREfessional, it is an amazing pore minimizing primer.

I am really excited to try out this blush, when mixed together the shade looks quite peachy.

This makeup bag feels really well made, it also can fit a lot of things inside & it is waterproof [ I spilled coke on it D: ]

Have you tried any of the Benefit products? What do you think of them?

I would also like to say that I'm not bragging, I am very greatful for these items & thanked my boyfriend & his mum multiple times.

When I think of what I want for Christmas, I always go to skincare, makeup, fragrance, pjs & slippers. I adore trying out new products or receiving my favourite products & nothing beats being warm & cosy in the Winter.

Wishlist #13 - The Etsy Edit

Wednesday, 13 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
Today I was looking on Etsy for some Christmas gifts & I may have stumbled across a few things I definitely need in my life.

I adore rings, so when I saw these gorgeous chevron rings & an adorable fox ring I knew they had to be added to my wishlist asap!

I am a huge Harry Potter fan so when I came across this butterbeer candle, I may have squealed with joy. It is a little pricey as it has to be sent from America but it's definitely worth it.

I love Batman & I must admit this cushion gave me a few giggles.

Do you shop on Etsy? Have you found any must have items?

Christmas | Stocking Fillers For Him

Tuesday, 12 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
This is the second post in my Christmas Gift Idea's series, I am going to be sharing what I think would be good stocking fillers for any male you have in your life  - the stocking could be for your son, brother, boyfriend/husband, flatmate etc.

I have actually bought this for my boyfriends stocking, It's a great way of keeping important things backed up & well..what man doesn't love Ninja's?!

Again I have bought this for my boyfriends stocking, this coat hook would be a great way to personalize his space but also make sure his coat is kept of the floor/chair.

I think these pocket size Lynx sprays are really handy as the man in your life can pop one in his pocket to make sure he smells good all day & he also gets to try out multiple scents.

Now, I added this because well farts are really funny & as I have mainly male friends I know most of them would have a good ten minutes of fun with this. It's just a silly gift that would brighten anyone's day.

I think mugs are good for any occasion, if the man in your life likes a good cuppa then this would be perfect for him.

Now, I know games can be quite pricy but if you keep an eye out for any sales, offers etc. I'm sure you can find an awesome game that he would love. Whether it's just a silly game you can play together or a game he has had his eye on for a while.

Are you having a stocking this year? Or are you making one for someone?

Winter Essentials

Monday, 11 November 2013

Hey Dolls.
Today I thought I'd show you what my winter essentials are. I have dry skin & my hair also takes a beating when it comes to the colder months so I thought I'd show you what products I use to keep my skin & hair protected & look less dull.

Nip+Fab Cherry Tarte Body Butter | As I have dry skin I need a body butter that really hydrates my skin & keeps it lovely & soft all day & this does the job perfectly. My arms feel incredibly soft & hydrated all day & it smells beautiful.

Arora Body Scrub - Sweet Vanilla | A good body scrub is a must, I like to use one everyday so it needs to be gentle enough so it doesn't irritate my skin but harsh enough to remove all those nasty dead skin cells & whatnot. I adore the consistency of this one, its a thick gel like scrub & the scent lingers on the skin for hours.

Boots Hand Lotion - Cranberry | I like to keep a good hand lotion with me at all times, as my hands get rather dry after I've washed them etc. I'm usually very fussy but this one from boots is amazing. It is very moisturising & doesn't leave my hands feeling greasy.

Lush Mint Julip Lip Scrub | This is defintely a must have if you suffer from dry lips, it is a all natural scrub that buffs away dry skin to reveal lovely soft & smooth lips. It also tastes like after eights.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Lip Balm | I have a lot of favourite lip balms but this is just has something a little extra. It leaves my lips moisturised & soft all day, it doesn't feel greasy or like it's just sitting on my lips. The shape is great as it makes it a lot easier to apply.

L'Oreal Skin Perfection Face Scrub | I like to use a face scrub everyday, so I need one that is gentle but still does the job well. It has quite a thick gel like consistency & has lots of little micro beads to remove impurities & leave the skin feeling soft & smooth.

Garnier Moisture Match - Goodbye Dry | This is the best moisturiser I have ever used. It is really thick & makes my skin feel amazing, it feels like it almost creates a barrier so my skin stays soft & hydrated all day even when I'm outside in the cold.

Garnier Tinted Eye Roll On | I get very little sleep especially in the winter, so I have crazy dark circles. The roll on feels really refreshing & is very gentle on my eye area, it contains caffeine so it makes me look more awake & as its tinted it covers up my dark circles effortlessly.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation - Ivory | This is amazing! It is a great foundation that makes me look more awake, it has a small amount of shimmer that makes my skin look less dull & it doesn't enhance any dry areas.

Tangle Teezer | I have very long, thick hair that has a 'I'll do what I want attitude' so add some central heating, wind & rain & it gets so unruly. Lots of tangles, frizz & all over dryness :( So this is where my tangle teezer comes in handy, it not only detangles my hair with no fuss, it leaves it feeling smooth & soft & manageable.

I use the Herbal Essences Beautiful Ends Cream & the Fudge Urban 3in1 Miracle Moisture Stuff together, I take a pump or two of each & run it through the ends of my hair. I prefer doing it when it's damp but I have been doing it after when it's dry lately to. It really helps with the dryness & makes my hair look so much more healthy & protects it from the horrible weather.

So that's all of my winter essentials, I hope you enjoyed this post.
Let me know in the comments what your winter essentials are (:
