Mac Morange, Up The Amp & Cockney

Tuesday, 29 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
I recently won Karen's amazing giveaway, among other goodies it included three Mac lipsticks. I chose the shades Morange, Up The Amp & Cockney. So, today I thought I'd share my thoughts on them.

Morange & Up The Amp are both from the Amplified Creme range. Morange is a bright, bold orange shade & Up The Amp is a deep lavender shade. They both feel very hydrating on the lips & have a slightly glossy finish. The pigmentation is incredible, you only need one sweep to achieve full on intense colour. Both lipsticks have incredible staying power - they last for around 4-5 hours before needing a little touch up. Although If you don't feel like touching up, they do leave a subtle stain on the lips.

Cockney is from the Lustre range. It is a yellow toned red with subtle gold glitter running through it. The colour payoff is a little sheer but that's what I like about it - it's a gorgeous red but not to over the top for everyday. Although the lipstick does contain glitter, it doesn't show on the lips when applied - it just adds to the high shine finish. I did expect the lipstick to be quite sticky because of how glossy it is but it isn't at all & it feels very light on the lips. The staying power for this lipstick isn't so great, after about two hours it had become almost non existent but if you don't mind touching up every now & again - it is definitely worth checking out.

The one thing that really makes all three lipsticks stand out is that they don't enhance any lip imperfections. They glide onto the lips with ease.

All in all, I adore Mac lipsticks. I am incredibly happy with the shades I chose & would love to try more. If you have any recommendations leave them in the comments below.

Are you a fan of Mac's lipsticks? What are your favourite shades?

L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara

Saturday, 26 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
I love trying new mascaras, it is something I have to apply everyday. I have quite a few on the go already but I couldn't resist trying the L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara as I have heard a few good things....& there was a 2 for £15 offer on L'Oreal... Who could resist that?!

The one & only gripe I have with this mascara is that when I first opened it, there was an overpowering superglue like scent. This has completely gone now but was a little worrying at first.

The mascara comes with a large bristle wand, it is a little more narrow at the end which is supposed to help get the lashes in the corners of your eyes easily. I find it catches all the lashes well & gives them a generous coating of mascara with no smudges or clumps to be seen. The formula is a little wet but once applied it dries quickly & helps make my lashes longer & thicker while separating them nicely without leaving them feeling crispy. The mascara lasts really well throughout the day, I haven't experienced any flaking or crumbling & it holds the curl really well. It is also incredibly easy to remove, a few swipes with a cotton pad that has been dampened with your favourite make up remover & it's gone.

All in all, I love this mascara! It makes my lashes look longer & thicker but clump free. I also haven't experienced any irritation throughout the day which is a bonus.

Are you a L'Oreal fan? What is your go to mascara?

The 'Not Another Tag' Tag

Thursday, 24 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
I'm not gonna lie..I love a good tag. So when I saw the 'not another tag' tag on Agent Smyth & had a little chuckle.. I knew it had to be done. This tag was made by the lovely Hayley from Tea Party Beauty.

You've made it BIG & bagged some VIP Fashion Week tickets. You lucky devil you. But in your rush to get there & get yourself noticed you forgot your VIP Passes. The guy on the door says he will cut you a deal, you can go in only if you sacrifice either your Front Row seat, backstage privileges or goody bag. What's it gonna be?
I would without a doubt give up the front row seats, I would rather be nosey backstage & get some goodies.

You're making a new subscription box, what 4 items & which dreaded perfume sample would you include in it?
Ooh..this is a hard one as I have never actually had one before but I always read posts about them so... I would put in a blush, mascara, nail polish & some weird skin care product that no one would want to put on their snail gel & for the perfume sample..maybe a Britney Spears one as at some point everyone rocked it.

What's your biggest blogging bugbear? The one thing guaranteed to make your blood boil & have you screaming/eye rolling at your laptop?
"I love your blog & I've followed. You should follow me to." -.-

No more joining in Twitter chats only slightly relevant to your blog. You can only join in one blogger chat a week and for the rest of your blogging days, which one's it gonna be and why?
I would choose #bbloggers..I usually one join that one anyways but there seems to be more & more drama as of late.

'Fess up, do you actually own any MAC? And if so what don't you like about the product?
I do actually own a few products from Mac. I quite like everything I own.. the only thing I have a problem with is the prices. £22 for a powder...seriously?!

The blogging Gods ban arm swatching, which body part will you swatch on now?
I don't swatch on my arm..I generally tend to swatch on my hand as I fail at taking photos of me actually wearing the product but maybe my leg.. you could just sit with your legs crossed & yeah haha.

You can no longer have Yankee Candles & Perfume Bottles in the background of your shots, what other inanimate object will you choose?
I don't actually think I've ever had either in the background but I'd probably choose my dogs..if they would sit still long enough as..well everyone loves pet photos.

Your blogs Instagram is it for cats or meal shots?
I don't have instagram. [ shocker ] I've never really seen the appeal & I have a pretty old phone. But If I did get it..I'd probably just spam photos of my boyfriends cats because I don't eat super interesting food.

I really enjoyed this tag (: Will you be doing it?

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

Tuesday, 22 April 2014

 Hey Dolls.
A while back there was this thing lurking on twitter that gave the friends you chose a free bottle of Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish. I sent it to a very good friend of mine & expressed my jealousy to my boyfriend who then kindly did it for me. I received my bottle through the post a week or so later. I've been using it for a few weeks now, so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

The product came beautifully packaged, it was so nice to see that a lot of time & effort had gone into it.

The cleanser comes packaged in a light blue bottle with a pump to dispense the product. It dispenses just the right amount of product for one use which means there will no waste what so ever.

The cleanser itself has a thick & creamy formula, when applied it feels very luxurious on the skin. I use one pump for my entire face, I massage it into my face first, then my eye area - taking a little longer with this to ensure all traces of make up are removed & then gently remove the cleaner with a warm, damp muslin cloth. It is very gentle on the skin & removes all traces of make up without a fuss - even stubborn mascara. It has quite a strong scent but when applied to the skin, it becomes very subtle & isn't noticeable after it has been removed. It leaves my skin feeling incredibly soft, clean & after continued use, looking a lot nicer.

I am incredibly impressed with the cleanser & I really do think it deserves the hype it gets. I will definitely be repurchasing it when this one runs out.

Are you a fan of Liz Earle? What products would you recommend?

What I've Bought #17

Saturday, 19 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
I have recently received some bits that Matt & I have ordered in the post, so I thought I'd share them with you.

I ordered a few bits from Fragrance Direct as I was feeling a bit down..naughty I know! I picked up two of the Sally Hansen Sugar Coat polishes in Sour Apple & Razzle-Berry. I then picked up the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Paint - Rich Russet.

Matt bought me two things from Feel Unique because I bought him Dark Souls 2 last month. I picked the Benefit They're Real mascara as I have had a few mini versions & absolutely adore it. I also picked the travel size of the Urban Decay Beauty Balm. They included a deluxe sample of the Benefit Stay Flawless Primer which I'm really excited to try out.

I have only tried out the Sally Hansen polishes at the moment. I will be reviewing everything soon, if there is anything you would particularly like to see - feel free to leave a comment below.
I have already reviewed the Benefit They're Real Mascara if you would like a read.

Have you picked up any goodies lately?

L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint Foundation - Porcelain

Thursday, 17 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
Today I thought I'd share my thoughts on the L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint Foundation. I purchased this on Twitter quite a while ago & have finally decided that I have tested it enough to share how I feel about it.

The foundation comes packaged in a beautiful frosted glass bottle with purple writing & lid. The bottle is a lot smaller than I expected it to be as it only contains 20ml of product. There is also no pump so it can be a little hard to dispense.

The foundation itself has a very thin, watery consistency which can make getting the right amount a bit of a hassle. It feels very light on the skin, blends well & sets into a powder finish. It has a very light coverage, it covers any redness & a few barely there blemishes but I find that it tends to emphasize the dry patches I have. The colour range isn't great, the lightest shade Porcelain isn't light at all, it's a little on the dark side for my pale skin so if I were to try to build it up to a medium coverage, I may end up looking a little orange. The lasting power also isn't the best, after two-three hours, it started to become quite patchy around my mouth & forehead.

All in all, I'm really not impressed with the foundation. I wasn't so fussed about the light coverage as when the warmer weather comes around that is usually what I opt for but the lasting power & shade range is really what let it down for me.

Have you tried the L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint Foundation? What are your thoughts?

The Beauty Blogger Tag

Tuesday, 15 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
The lovely Laura & Jade have both tagged me to do this tag & obviously I had to. I do adore a good tag (:
Why did you start blogging and how long have you been blogging for?
I read a lot of blogs before I started my blog & had a decent amount of spare time. I also think my family/boyfriend were getting frustrated with my constant rambling about make up. I officially made my blog in 2012 but decided it wasn't really for me but then in 2013 I properly started blogging & fell in love.

Whose blog did you fall in love with first?
I'm not to sure to be honest. I started reading a lot of blogs at the same time but I remember Zoella was a favourite.

What was the first blogosphere hyped about product that you bought? Was it worth the hype?
I think it was the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. I had heard so many good things about the palette that I just had to have it. Yes, it is definitely worth the hype. It has beautiful neutral matte shadows with one lovely slightly shimmery shade which is perfect for highlighting.

What are your five favourite things about blogging and being a Beauty Blogger?
  • My blog is my own little project that will never be..perfect. There will always be something to work on & I love that. It is my way of being more creative & sharing my love for all things beauty related.
  • Since I have began blogging, I have learnt so many things. My make up knowledge & application skills have become so much better.
  • Blogging Friends - I have spoken to so many lovely people through blogging. The blogging community is amazing, it's like one big family.
  • Photography! I love taking photos of anything & everything. My camera is always in my bag, ready to be taken out to make a special moment last forever. I have also found that my constant photo taking has helped with my blog photos.
  • Discovering new brands & products - At one point, I never contoured, used highlighter or had a decent skincare routine but now I have found so many amazing products from new & old brands that have made my skin/make up look so much better.
What have you learnt from being a Beauty Blogger?
My make up brush knowledge! I never used make up brushes, I didn't think they were necessary but now I adore them. They have made my make up look so much nicer.  My make up application & knowledge has become much better. I pride myself in knowing what a particular product is used for & what's the best way to apply it.

Have you changed anything since becoming a Beauty Blogger?
I've changed a lot of things - My skincare routine, applying my make up with the right brushes & certain make up products. I now have to use a primer everytime I apply foundation & I have started using eyeshadow & lipstick which I never usually touched.

What advice would you give to a Beauty Blogger just starting out?
  • Use clear black text on a while background. If the post is hard to read, a lot of people won't read it.
  • You don't need a super expensive camera to achieve good quality photos. Also make sure they are large so your viewers don't have to squint.
  • Don't compare your blog to bigger, more well known bloggers. Just remember they had to start somewhere to.
  • Think about your blog design. That is what draws a lot of people in, if your design looks messy or hard to see they may not give your content a chance.
  • Always be 110% honest. You are giving your opinion so people can see if it would work for them to.
  • Most importantly... Have fun! Don't worry about getting a post up everyday, do what works for you.
What are your top 5 makeup brands?
  • Mua
  • L'Oreal
  • Rimmel
  • Maybelline
  • Revlon
Recommend your top 5 beauty products
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
  • Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation
  • Mua Undressed Eyeshadow Palette
  • Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder
  • Mua Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter
I'm not the best at tagging people so...I tag everyone who would like to do it (:

What's In My Makeup Bag

Saturday, 12 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
Today I thought I'd show you what products I keep in my make up bag. This changes often as I try out new products or I fancy a change but there are a few products that are permanent residents.

I keep two primers in my make up bag: The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser which I use on no foundation days to keep my skin shine free all day & Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser which creates a lovely base for foundation while minimising the appearance of pores.

My go to foundation at the moment is the L'Oreal Infallible Foundation - Porcelain. It is lightweight, an amazing colour match & lasts all day.

I switch between three concealers at the moment: Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer - Light which does a fab job at concealing dark circles & includes an amazing setting powder. Mac Pro Longwear Concealer - NC15 & Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - Fair which are both used for dark circles, redness & blemishes.

My go to powder at the moment is the Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot Powder. It is translucent, mattifying & keeps make up in place all day.

My HG contour products is the Nyx Blush - Taupe. It creates a natural looking shadow that is perfect for pale skin.

My favourite blush & highlighter combo at the moment is the Benefit Sugarbomb Blush & the Mua Undress Your Skin Shimmer Highlighter. Both perfect for creating glowy skin.

As I have oily lids I need a good primer so the Mua Eye Primer is always in my make up bag. It keeps eyeshadow in place all day, no fading or creasing to be seen.

My go to eyeshadow at the moment is Mac Satin Taupe. It is the perfect 'all over the lid' shade.

I have become quite lazy with my brows so the Maybelline Brow Drama - Dark Blonde is very handy as it fills them in nicely while keeping them in place & it doesn't leave them feeling crispy.

I am currently switching between two mascaras at the moment: L'Oreal Mega Volume Collagene Mascara & Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara. They both do an amazing job at lengthening & adding volume while keeping my lashes clump free.

I love the brush on the Benefit They're Real Mascara so even though it's dried up, I used it to separate my lashes & give them more of a natural look if I over apply.

So that is everything that is currently in my make up bag. I hope you enjoyed this post (:

I love reading posts like this so feel free to leave your links in the comments below.

Mac Eyeshadows - Satin Taupe & Woodwinked

Thursday, 10 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
Today I want to talk about two of the prettiest eyeshadows I have ever laid my eyes on. Satin Taupe & Woodwinked from Mac.

Mac eyeshadows have very simple packaging. They come packaged in a small black plastic pot with a clear lid which has the Mac logo on it. It feels very secure & has that little click when closed which gives me more assurance that they will be safe if I travel with them.

Satin Taupe is a taupe shade from the Frost range.

Woodwinked is a deep gold shade from the Veluxe Pearl range.

The quality of the eyeshadows is incredible. They are well pigmented, buttery soft & blend like a dream with no fall out to be seen. You only need a small amount as the colour payoff is amazing. The shades are great for both day & night as they can just be swept over the lid or built up to be more intense. The lasting power of the shadows is great, with a primer they last all day without creasing or fading. I always use a primer, as I have oily lids so I'm not sure how they would last without one. I've found that the shades work really well together, I usually lightly dust woodwinked over the lid & add satin taupe to the crease & outer corner as well as I possibly can. It creates such a simple look that can be rocked for any occasion.

I am incredibly impressed with the eyeshadows. The quality is incredible, they are pigmented, easy to apply & blend like a dream. What more can you ask from a eyeshadow?

However, Mac are quite pricey & I know not everyone can afford to spend £12.50 on a single eyeshadow so if you really want to try them, I suggest looking at blog sales or ask for a Mac gift card for your birthday/christmas. I was lucky enough to win a gift card that I used to purchase the eyeshadows included in this post but I will definitely be picking up more shades, so if you have any suggestions then please leave them in the comments below.

My Neighbour Totoro

Tuesday, 8 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
One day while I was volunteering in Barnardo's, I spotted a film called Spirited Away. As my boyfriend is a big fan of animated films, I thought I'd pick it up for him. When I got home & gave it to him, from the smile on his face I know I did well. He then went on to tell me about the man who made the films - Hayao Miyazaki & the studio who have produced quiet a few of them - Studio Ghibli. We then went onto Amazon to have a look for more of the films, one of the first ones Matt bought was My Neighbour Totoro.

'The story follows Satsuke and Mai, two young girls who find their new country home is in a mystical forest inhabited by a menagerie of mystical creatures called Totoros. They befriend O Totoro, the biggest and eldest Totoro, who is also the king of the forest. As their girls' mother lies sick in the hospital, O Totoro brings the sisters on a magical adventure but also helps them to understand the realities of life.

It's safe to say I adore the film, possibly more than any other animated film out there. Everything about it is incredible! So when my boyfriend surprised me with my very own Totoro shaped bag, I was incredibly happy. Look how adorable it is! It's also incredibly roomy & very well made.

Hayao Miyazaki has made a ton of incredible films, a few of my favourites other than My neighbour Totoro is Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away & Porco Rosso. I'd definitely recommend giving them a watch.

Nars Eyeshadow Duo - Alhambra

Saturday, 5 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
Today I'm going to talk about the best bargain I have ever come across. I have always ooohed & ahhhed over Nars, they have incredible packaging, a beautiful shade range & a very hefty price tag. I could never justify spending so much money on one thing but when I was having a look at a few blog sales & came across the Nars eyeshadow duo - Alhambra for £9 with delivery.... I purchased it almost immediately. I was sure it would already be gone but when I had a tweet back from Laura that it was still available... I may have possibly done a happy dance.

The Nars Eyeshadow Duo comes packed in a black rubberized casing with 'Nars' in big, white letters on the front. It also comes with a full sized mirror in the lid. The duo is the perfect size for traveling, although the packaging does seem to be a magnet for every fingerprint & spec of makeup

The duo contains two beautiful shades, a champagne pink & a light gold. They both have a subtle amount of shimmer - just enough to brighten your eyes. The shadows are buttery soft, a dream to blend & have no fall out. The pigmentation is also amazing - you can have a subtle sweep of colour or build it up for the shades to be more intense. I like to sweep the gold across the entire lid, apply the pink to the inner third & sweep a light brown into my non-existent crease. With a primer, the shades last all day without creasing or fading what so ever.

All in all, I am in love with this duo. The shades are so beautiful, they look great worn together or alone & the quality is exceptional.

Are you a fan of Nars? What bargains have you came across?

Mac Pro Longwear Concealer - NC15

Thursday, 3 April 2014

Hey Dolls.
Today I'm going to be sharing my thoughts on the Mac Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15. I picked this up in March but it took me a while to use it as I'm pretty sure I should have got NW15 instead. I finally thought I'd try it as my trusty Collection concealer is on it's way out. I've been using it for about a week or so, I feel like I definitely know how I feel about the product.

The Mac Pro Longwear Concealer comes packed in a small glass bottle, the text is all black & it has a pump. Now you may be thinking that the pump is a god send... But it's not. This may well be my only issue with the concealer but the pump dispenses far to much product. One small pump is enough for three or four days of use as I only use it to cover dark circles & the occasional blemish. Although I use the rest of the product on my face even though it isn't needed..I still feel like it's a big waste.

The concealer is more like a liquid foundation in terms of consistency but that is what makes it such a dream to blend. It feels very lightweight on the skin, doesn't sink into fine lines around the eyes, crease or oxidise throughout the day. It has a medium coverage but can be built up to a full coverage without becoming cakey. I have the shade NC15 which is for yellow undertones, I have pink undertones but I find once blended it isn't to noticeable. I apply the concealer with my finger & blend it out with a beauty sponge - it leaves a flawless dark circle free finish. The lasting power is also incredible! Once set with powder the concealer lasts for a whopping 12-13 hours without budging what so ever.

All in all, I adore the concealer! It covers my dark circles with ease, lasts all day & hasn't caused any irritation or break outs. It hasn't stolen top spot from my trusty Collection concealer but it is definitely one I'd reach for when I'm having a bad dark circle day.

Are you a fan of Mac? What is your go to concealer?
