Nails Inc The Big Smoke Collection

Tuesday, 28 April 2015

This is going to be quite a short post as I still have a million & one things I wanted to get done today. I won these gorgeous Nails Inc polishes back in January, I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to share them on here because they are pretty much all I've used on my nails for the last few months.

There are four polishes in the set:
Lancelot Place - Silver, black & gold glitter
The Thames - Grey
Chelsea Green - Silver with black particles
Kings Road - Metallic muted pink

The polishes are incredible quality! They all apply really well, dry quickly & stay chip free for a good 3-4 days. I thought Chelsea Green & Lancelot Place would be quite difficult to remove as that is usually the case with textured/glitter polishes but they both came off a lot easier than expected with my normal nail polish remover  The brush is a decent size & fans out ever so slightly, so I can achieve a even opaque finish in 2-3 strokes.

My favourite polish out of the set is Lancelot Place, it is such a pretty glitter top coat that looks beautiful over pretty much every nail polish shade.

I can't seem to find this collection anywhere, so I think it may have been for Christmas which is a shame because I have been wearing Lancelot Place so much that I really wanted to pick up another.

Maybelline - A Hit, A Miss & A I Just Don't Know

Thursday, 23 April 2015

I have quite a love/hate relationship with Maybelline. I really like some of their mascaras, brow products, nail polishes, primers, etc. but  I have tried quite a few foundations/concealers & no matter how much I like the product itself, the shades never match my skin tone but I was reading some posts on the Eraser concealer & I noticed that quite a few pale girls use it, so I thought I'd give it a go.  I've been using them for a little while now, I thought I'd share my thoughts.

Maybelline Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil - Dark Blonde
The brow pencil comes in a black plastic casing that has a mechanical gel pencil on one end & a self loading powder applicator on the other end. The pencil is used to fill in any gaps & shape the brows while the powder is used to add extra definition & set the pencil. I have the shade Dark Blonde which is a really great match for my brows & hair colour. The main problem that I have with my brows is that the left one looks absolutely nothing like the right one, so I need a brow product that can help shape my brows to look more like sisters than distant cousins that have been twice removed & this does such an amazing job! My brows look full & defined while still looking quite natural but if you prefer a bolder brow, you can build it up wihout it looking a bit over the top. The only thing I don't like about this is that the black pigment & writing comes off so easily & ends up all over my hands but as it literally takes me seconds to achieve perfect brows, I can overlook that.

Maybelline Anti Age Eraser Eye Concealer - Light
The concealer comes in a small plastic tube with a sponge applicator on top. I was a bit concerned that the applicator would become infested with bacteria after a few uses, but apparently it is antibacterial & kind of self cleaning. It has a thin consistency that feels light on the skin, blends like a dream & does a fantastic job at covering my pesky dark circles. The thing that makes this a miss for me is the shade, it's far to dark for my skin. I've tried applying it before my foundation, buffed it in really well & mixed it with a lighter concealer but it's still quite noticeable that it doesn't match.

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara
The mascara comes with a curved plastic wand that has longer bristles on one side to lenghten & a smaller comb with shorter bristles on the other side to add volume. It does lengthen my lashes quite well & adds a small amount of volume which would be great for minimal makeup days. The thing that makes me unsure about this mascara is that it has a very wet formula. I find that it works best if I wipe away any excess before use but even then there is a small amount of clumping. I'm also not keen on the brush. The shape & different lengths are great but it is quite sharp I find myself being extra careful when I use it which means I take more time to get ready.

Have you tried any of these products? What are your thoughts?

Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner Pen

Tuesday, 21 April 2015

I love a bit of eyeliner but as I'm not particulary good at it, I don't wear it often. I recently picked up the Supercat eyeliner pen as there was a 3for2 offer on in Boots & I'm so glad I did!

I normally gravitate towards felt-tip style eyeliners as I find them the easiest to use & this one may be the easiest of them all! It has a super fine tip, so I can easily glide it across my lids & have a blacker than black, perfect line in seconds. I usually try to keep my eyeliner on the thin side as I have oily & hooded lids, so I normally get some transfer if I go for a thicker line but no matter what look I go for, this one doesn't transfer, smudge or fade what so ever. With the amazing staying power, I was a little worried it would be a pain to remove & I would have to rub my eyes raw before it budged. I have tried removing it with both my cleanser & miceller water & they both broke it down really easily.

This has quickly become a firm favourite! It is super pigmented, long lasting & easy to apply. It is decently priced at £6 but as Boots pretty much always have offers on, you may just end up getting it for less. I can't fault this eyeliner one bit, I absolutely adore it!

Handbag Essentials

Wednesday, 15 April 2015

I am always switching what bag I use & I noticed that there are 5 items that never get left out. So I thought I'd share them with you.

Sure Ultra Dry Anti Perspirant.
I started carrying this with me when I was volunteering to make sure things stayed fresh all day as I was moving around a lot. I usually just pick up whatevers cheapest while I'm in asda but I do really like this one - there isn't a strong scent & it does it's job really well.

Compact Mirror.
I am a self confessed face toucher! I just can't help finding an excuse to touch my own face which means that my makeup can end up rubbing off. So I like to keep a mirror in my bag for touch ups & it also comes in handy to make sure my hair doesn't end up looking crazy if it's windy.

Carex Antibacterial hand gel.
I use public transport a lot & I've seen many people sneeze/cough into their hands & then touch a part of the bus that my hands may have to go near. So I like to keep this is my bag to make sure my hands are as clean as possible at all times. Plus this one smells like strawberry laces which makes it much for fun to use!

Soap & Glory Hand Food.
My hands get incredibly dry especially when it's absoluetly freezing which it currently is but as I much prefer the cold, there are no complaints here! This makes sure my hands stay soft & moisturised all day long & it has a lovely subtle scent.

Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm.
Like my hands, my lips also get incredibly dry. I very rarely wear a lip colour so a simple hydrating balm is perfect for me. I currently carry the Nivea Hydro Care Lip Balm. It leaves my lips feeling soft & hydrated while adding a subtle shine.

Six Reasons Why I Dislike Warm Weather

Sunday, 12 April 2015

In the UK, we have had a few sunny days & a lot of people seem super happy about it...except me. I hate being warm, I would rather it be freezing 100% of the time. So, I'm going to tell you six things that make me dread this time of year. If you love warm weather & this post offends/annoys you...sorry? It's not to be taken seriously, just the complaints of a girl who left the house feeling great then walked into my boyfriends house looking & feeling like a sweaty mess.

1, When it's cold, you can put as many layers as you want on but when it's warm there is only so much you can take off before it becomes a crime.

2, Yes, it appears to be more socially acceptable to eat ice cream when it's warm but because it's warm it melts all over your lovely outfit.

3, Sweating is inevitable. No matter how little clothing you have on, the sun will eventually make you feel sweaty & gross. No matter what you are doing, it will get you.

4, Embrace the no makeup days. When it gets super warm, my makeup doesn't want to stick around. No matter what I do, it will end up sliding off my face.

5, Bugs. I'm talking about bees, wasps, bluebottles, nats etc. They are everywhere! I think the worst thing is when a bee or a wasp has decided it fancies some of my ice cream & then I have to get rid of it.

6, Shopping for clothes is horrendous. I rarely find clothes I like when Spring/Summer comes around. I also adore my faux leather jacket, black skinny jeans & comfy jumpers. All of the things that aren't really warm weather friendly.

I don't want this post to be super negative, so I'm going to tell you a few things that I enjoy about warm weather.

1, I don't have to get up super early to take blog photos, it stays light pretty much all day. I've also noticed that my photos look a lot better.

2, I eat healthier, kind of. As much as I love salads, I do tend to eat more when the warmer weather comes around. I have also discovered my love for smoothies, all that fresh fruity goodness! I have also added ice cream, custard & chocolate to a few of the smoothies I have made. No regrets.

Are you a warm weather hater or are you enjoying the sunshine?

Loving Lately #8

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Buttercream
The buttercream has a lovely strong but not overpowering sweet lime scent that lingers on the skin for hours. It has quite a thick consistancy but it sinks in so quickly without leaving any residue behind. I usually forget to mositurise my body as it's not something I normally enjoy but I have been using this every single day without fail, it has made such a noticeable differance to how my skin looks & feels.

Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash
Like the buttercream, this has a gorgeous sweet lime scent, although it is a little more sublte. I love to use this in the morning as the scent really helps to wake me up. The shower gel lathers really well, I find two pumps is enough to create lots of lather to wash my whole body. I've found some shower gels seem to strip my skin & leave it feeling a little dry but this leaves my skin feeling soft, moisturised & most importantly super clean.

WetnWild Walking On Eggshells Highlight Shade
After using this trio a few times, I fell in love with the brow bone highlighter. It's a gorgeous light champagne shade that adds a natural looking glow. I don't just use this to highlight my brow bone, I also use it to highlight my cheekbones, cupids bow etc. It has great pigmentation, blends like a dream & isn't super shimmery.

Collection Lasting Perfecton Concealer
I went through a faze of not using this concealer but when I was trying to do a 100% highstreet makeup look, this was my weapon of choice to battle those pesky dark circles. I instantly remembered how much I adore it - it has a thick but creamy consistancy that blends like a dream, it covers everything from dark circles to redness with only a small amount of product needed & it lasts all day long.

OPI Black Cherry Chutney
I prefer dark nail polishes no matter what the season it is, I always like a more edgy feel to my look. This nail polish beautiful! It is a gorgeous plum shade with red shimmer. It is opaque in two coats, applies smoothly & dries super quickly. It lasts pretty well on the nails, remaining chip free for around 4-5 days

Real Techniques Nic's Picks

Sunday, 5 April 2015

You all know how much I adore Real Techniques! They offer amazing quality brushes for afforadable prices. I was so excited when I opened this on Christmas Day! Is it just me or do we all like to keep our new brushes in perfect clean condition for as long as possible?! They have been sitting in the box for quite a while now but I couldn't resist any longer & have been reaching for them everytime I apply my makeup.

The set contains 5 beautiful silver handled brushes, 3 of which are exclusive.

Duo Fibre Face Brush:
For lightweight buidable application of powder or bronzer.

Cheek Brush: [exclusive]
For evenly appying blush or highlighter across the cheekbones.

Angled Shadow Brush [exclusive]
For adding depth & definition to the crease.

Base Shadow Brush:
For applying an eyeshadow all over the lid.

Eyeliner Brush [exclusive]
For defining the lash line with powder, cream or gel eyeliner.

The brushes are amazing quality, they have been made with super soft, cruelty-free bristles that have been hand cut to allow me to achieve a flawless finish every time. The brushes wash really well, dry quickly & are still incredibly soft. My favourite brushes out of the set are the cheek brush & eyeliner brush. They allow me to get a very precise application, something I normally struggle with. I love that the writing on the brushes are in the traditional RT's colours - orange for the base, pink for finishing the look & purple for the eyes.

I pretty much only use Real Techniques brushes to apply my makeup. They are fantastic quality, super soft & can be used for a multitude of things. I can't fault these brushes one little bit & definitely recommend picking a set up asap!

Are you a fan of Real Techniques? Will you be adding these brushes to your collection?
